Your Rights & What to Expect Understanding the care process and your role in it

At Classic LifeCare, care is built around you. Here's what you can expect at every stage — and the rights that protect you throughout.

Client Rights & Responsibilities

Every client has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, to participate in their own care planning, to give or refuse informed consent, to privacy and confidentiality, and to raise concerns without fear. These rights are at the heart of our Accreditation Canada standards.

Your care plan starts with a free consultation where we learn about your needs, preferences, and goals. A care coordinator works with you and your family to design a plan tailored to your situation. Plans are reviewed regularly and adjusted as your needs change — you're always involved in the process.
Your healthcare worker will introduce themselves, review the care plan together, and take time to understand your home environment and preferences. The first visit is about building comfort and trust. If anything doesn't feel right, your care coordinator is a phone call away.
We actively encourage feedback — it's how we improve. You can speak directly with your care coordinator, contact your local branch, call our toll-free line at 1-888-263-5168, or submit feedback through the Family Portal. All concerns are taken seriously and followed up on promptly.
The Family Portal gives you visibility into your loved one's care schedule, visit details, and care team. You can access it anytime through our website. It's designed to give family members peace of mind, especially when you can't be there in person.

Paying for Home Care Understanding private pay, government programs, and insurance coverage

Home care funding in Canada can be confusing. Here's a clear breakdown of the options available in British Columbia and Alberta — the two provinces Classic LifeCare serves.

Most Classic LifeCare clients begin with private pay. Rates vary by service type and location, with a minimum of 2–3 hours per visit depending on your branch. There are no long-term contracts — you can adjust or pause services as needed. Contact your local branch for a personalized quote.
Home care expenses may qualify for the Medical Expense Tax Credit (METC) or the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) on your federal return. Provincial credits may also apply in BC and Alberta. We recommend consulting a tax professional, but receipts for Classic LifeCare services can be used as supporting documentation.

Veteran Affairs Canada

Veterans may be eligible for home care benefits through Veterans Affairs Canada. Classic LifeCare is an approved provider. Eligibility depends on service history, disability status, and health needs.

Children's Rights in Care

Every child receiving care through Classic LifeCare has the right to be treated with kindness and respect, to have their voice heard in age-appropriate ways, to receive care in a safe and supportive environment, and to have their cultural, religious, and personal needs respected. Pediatric care plans are developed in close collaboration with parents, guardians, and the child's medical team. We start with a thorough assessment of your child's health needs, daily routines, likes and dislikes, and family goals. The plan is a living document — reviewed regularly, adjusted as your child grows, and always shaped by your input.
When appropriate, Classic LifeCare can coordinate with schools and community programs to ensure your child's care is consistent across environments. This may include communicating with school support staff, sharing relevant health information (with your consent), and ensuring transitions between home and school are smooth and safe.
Your voice matters. If something doesn't feel right, you can reach your care coordinator directly, contact your local branch, or call our toll-free line at 1-888-263-5168. We take every concern seriously and follow a formal process to ensure resolution. You can also provide feedback through the Family Portal at any time.
